ALLEA (All European Academies) has appointed members to five new Task Forces. All candidates nominated by the Council of Finnish Academies were selected.

In the new Task Forces, the Finnish representatives will address, among other topics, research equity, climate sustainability, open science, the relationship between science and policymaking, as well as the integration of research security and academic freedom.

Representatives of the Council of Finnish Academies in ALLEA Task Forces:

  • Professor Johanna Kantola (University of Helsinki): EDI in Research – Advancing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in European Academia

  • Professor Risto Soukka (LUT University): Net Zero – Promoting Climate Sustainability in the Academic System

  • Professor emeritus Kimmo Kaski (Aalto University): Protecting and Sharing Data – Addressing Challenges in Open Science, Intellectual Property Rights, Data Governance, and the Balance Between Security and Accessibility

  • Professor Anu Koivunen (University of Turku): Strengthening Trust in Science – Exploring the Role of Scientific Evidence in Policymaking and Scientific Literacy to Counter Mis- and Disinformation

  • Associate Professor Emilia Palonen (University of Helsinki): Integrating Research Security and Academic Freedom – Ensuring That Research Security Measures Uphold Fundamental Academic Values and International Collaboration

In addition, Krista Varantola, Chancellor emerita and representative of the Council of Finnish Academies, has been appointed as a member of ALLEA’s Research Ethics & Integrity Council, together with Maria Kaukonen, representative of Young Academy Finland.
