Science academies are independent academic societies. The members are invited based on scientific merits. The objective of the science academies is to promote scientific research and its appreciation in society. They comment on timely topics related to science and society, compile publications, grant financial support and organize events.
The Council of Finnish Academies works as a co-operative body for the four science academies in Finland.
Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters is a society of science founded in 1908. Its mission to promote scientific research and act as a link between researchers. One of its domains of work is to develop evidence-informed decision-making in society. The Academy organizes events, publishes scientific publications, and gives opinions on issues concerning science and scientists. It has more than 800 domestic and 180 foreign members who are invited based on scientific merits. The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters distributes annually two million euros in grants, especially to young researchers.

The objective of The Finnish Academy of Technology is to promote technology and economy related research and education in Finland.
The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters
The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters, the oldest scientific academy in Finland, was founded in 1838. It is an academy for all branches of science and scholarship. Its aim is to promote high-quality research, scholarship, networking and dissemination of information by arranging presentations, symposia and conferences, publishing scholarly contributions, awarding prizes, providing financial support, promoting national and international collaboration, stimulating transdisciplinary discussion.
The Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in Finland
The Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in Finland was founded in 1921. It is a community of elected members active in the technical sciences, in areas that support them or where they are applied. The vision is to contribute to the development of society, business and the environment with a multidisciplinary view of technology and its possibilities. This is implemented in their activities, categorized according to; debate – education – research.
